The short answer: Tinicum Park Polo Club plays on a field inside Tinicum Park, a county park along the Delaware River in Erwinna, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Matches are on Saturday afternoons from mid-May through September, and I was told 600 to 1,800 people come to watch. It's one of the best examples of public polo I saw on my whole tour.
These notes come from my 2021 and 2022 tour, when I tried to visit every polo club in America as a playing USPA member. Seasons, contacts, and prices change, so check each club's Instagram or the U.S. Polo Association before you go.
Tinicum Park at a glance
Where: Tinicum Park, Erwinna, Pennsylvania, along the Delaware River.
When: Saturday afternoons, mid-May through September, weather permitting (Visit Bucks County).
History: The club began in 1993 with a handful of players. By 2018 it had more than 50 playing members and a 20-week summer season, making it the largest club in the Eastern Circuit (USPA).
Best for: Families, first-time spectators, and anyone who wants polo in a park.
My visit
Hesham, who runs the club, took me to lunch, and he couldn't have been kinder. He told me 600 to 1,800 people come out to watch. The field sits inside a county park, so anyone can come.
The club has an international side too. For its 25th anniversary in 2018, Tinicum hosted a friendship match against Egypt's national team.
Why public polo matters
Polo has a reputation for being private, and on my tour, some clubs told me they were closed to the public. Tinicum is the opposite: a public park, a Saturday afternoon, and room for families.
If America wants more polo players, it needs more people who have seen a game in person. Clubs like Tinicum are where that starts. I made that case in Can America Be the Best in the World at Polo Again?
