I'm Amanda Leon, a neuroscience-trained founder and author. I built Unrth, my strategic design agency, in 2017, and its clients include oil, gas, and industrial companies.
The short answer: yes, there are oil and gas marketing case studies with real numbers, and here are three of them. Hondo Resources went from page four of Google to page one in under a year. Jason Ellison, CEO of Ellison Fluid Calipers, more than doubled his LinkedIn following in thirteen months. GMI Group built LinkedIn from zero to 61,272 impressions in its first year. Every number below comes from Google Search Console or LinkedIn's own analytics.
The three results at a glance
Hondo Resources, oilfield water transfer, Midland, Texas. Channel: website and search. Average Google position went from 31.2 (page four) to 8.9 (page one) between mid-2025 and April 2026, and search impressions grew from about 31,000 to about 72,000 a month.
Jason Ellison, CEO of Ellison Fluid Calipers. Channel: the CEO's personal LinkedIn. Followers grew from 1,974 to 4,232 between September 2025 and October 2026, and his posts earned 270,955 impressions, 80% of them outside his own network.
GMI Group, flange, fitting, and pipe manufacturer, Houston. Channel: the company LinkedIn page. From its first post in January 2025, the page earned 61,272 impressions, 399 new followers, and a 9.2% engagement rate in 2025, 23.2% above its competitors.
What the three have in common
The companies are different and so are the channels, but the work followed the same pattern.
Research before creative. Each project started with what the buyer actually searches for, reads, and trusts. For Hondo, that meant the questions Permian operators type into Google. For GMI, it meant brand guidelines before a single post.
One clear hypothesis. Hondo was invisible in search. Jason's expertise was invisible on LinkedIn. GMI had never posted at all. Each project went after one problem, not ten.
Consistency, measured in quarters. Hondo's climb took about nine months. Jason posted three times a week for over a year. GMI posted about once a week all year. None of these results came from one viral post.
Proof instead of claims. Specific numbers from real wells, real projects, and real acquisitions beat confident adjectives with technical buyers every time.
That pattern is the Unrth Methodâ„¢: research what buyers ask, form a hypothesis about why they can't find you, run the experiment long enough to measure, and keep going.
Why the brain science matters here
Engineers, completions teams, and procurement managers like to think they buy on specs alone. The research says otherwise. People tend to trust what they have seen often, a finding psychologist Robert Zajonc called the mere exposure effect in 1968, and they prefer what is easy to process. That is why steady, specific, plain-English content works so well in a field full of vague sales claims. I wrote more about it in neuromarketing for energy companies.
How to read these numbers honestly
They come from the platforms themselves: Google Search Console for Hondo, LinkedIn analytics for Jason and GMI.
No one else worked on Hondo's website or search during the period measured.
These are three companies, not an industry benchmark. They show what is possible, not what is guaranteed.
